The assignment received from Marcegaglia Tourism dealt with the demolition of the existing building and the design of a new one. The issue was two-fold: increasing the number of rooms (from 47 to about 127) and getting a building able to work on a longer span of time (not only the summer season). The new building is enriched with a modern restaurant, a roof bar looking over the sea and the beach and a 500-seat congress center. In order to get the best from natural heating and solar light, the rooms are arranged on the 3/4 of a circle, with a northest to southwest orientation. Each room has its own balcony, screened by a brise-soleil able to mitigate the heating and create a confortable microclimate. Room entrances are arranged on a circular corridor which overlooks the big round court inside, where public shows or art exhibitions can be displayed. The integrity and wilderness of the park around the building is preserved by several solutions: mechanical traffic is not allowed and a 130-car parking lot will be build underground. A complex of 3 swimming-pools stands between the hotel and the beach, creating a scenographic entrance towards the sea.
