A year-and-a-half long design-build collaboration with clients and general contractor modernized an 1899 brick shop building into a new residence. Each piece of the architecture, interior and landscape were elementally de-constructed, re-designed and re-composed into a new organic whole that opens up for modern family living.
This is a house of details made from carefully chosen and hand-crafted materials. A palette of Pennsylvania brick, board-formed concrete, steel windows and doors, mahogany and handmade metalwork creates a fresh presence on the Brooklyn streetscape of stoops and courtyards. Interiors were re-proportioned and fitted with natural finishes, new fixtures and custom cabinetwork throughout. New front and back courtyards extend the house out onto the street and into the garden.
