S9 Architecture's Neuhoff reimagines an abandoned meatpacking complex as a vibrant micro-neighborhood, mending a decades-long void in the urban fabric and creating a new place that could only exist at this site.
S9 created the master plan and designed both new and adapted structures. Rather than erase the past in favor of redevelopment, S9's approach embraced it; new architecture, public spaces, and riverfront landscapes are woven into a cohesive plan that unfolds among restored structures and contemporary “ruins” from the site's industrial past. The reimagined district includes office, residential, hotel, retail, and public space. The existing architecture amidst new interventions and distinct topography creates a multi-level urban experience that is entirely unique and rooted in context.
Situated between the lively Germantown neighborhood and the Cumberland River, the abandoned complex had severed access between the neighborhood and the waterfront for decades. S9’s design mends this divide by reestablishing pedestrian connections and reorienting the site toward the water, weaving together two once-disconnected districts into a unified urban experience. Through this layered, connective design, S9 creates a new place, evolving a historic industrial site into a dynamic and enduring part of Nashville’s urban fabric.
