Located on Berlin’s Museum Island, the Music Academy’s cafeteria was refreshed to create a higher quality experience for its students. The new interiors concept is rooted in the listed building’s origins as well as to its current use: black-and-white sketches commissioned especially for the project depict scenes from the structure’s former life as royal stables for 300 horses and carriages belonging to the imperial court. The classic black and white colour combination also alludes to the keyboard of a grand piano, while brushed brass is reminiscent of brass instruments, and motifs in the lounge area’s room divider suggest the “dancing” notes of a musical score. The café holds furniture classics in the Viennese style, a reference the city’s renown as a centre for the creation of important works of classical music, and a more contemporary lounge has been created next to the students‘ practice booths.
