The NetOne Zambia Headquarters is a bold new addition to Lusaka’s urban fabric, designed to reflect the identity of one of Zambia’s leading telecom companies. The three-story office building (Ground Floor + 2 levels) serves as both a workplace and a brand landmark, embodying the client’s commitment to connectivity, innovation, and modern African identity.
The design takes inspiration from beadwork traditions found across Southern Africa, where patterns, repetition, and color encode meaning and narrative. This cultural reference is reinterpreted in the building’s façade, where protruding concrete block modules form pixelated patterns across the elevations. Red inserts, drawn from the brand identity, punctuate the otherwise neutral palette, reinforcing the company’s visual signature.
The building’s flowing horizontal lines are articulated through curved slab edges and continuous balcony bands, giving the façade a sense of movement and dynamism. This fluidity represents the idea of networks and connectivity—key themes in the telecommunications industry. At the same time, the pixel-like façade treatment conveys the digital realm, grounding the building’s aesthetic firmly in the information age.
The façade doubles as both a visual statement and a climatic device. The blockwork creates shade, diffuses sunlight, and ensures a comfortable indoor environment while maintaining a distinctive outward identity.
The building is constructed using reinforced concrete columns and frames, ensuring robustness and longevity. The façade modules are crafted from concrete blocks, cast to protrude from the main surface, generating texture and depth. The material honesty of concrete is celebrated while the added pops of color bring a human and cultural scale to the corporate setting.
Large glazed windows open the building to natural light and views, promoting a healthy work environment. The balcony balustrades, finished with perforated patterns, further soften the massing and introduce a play of light and shadow.
While the project is unmistakably modern, it is deeply rooted in its African context. The façade’s beadwork-inspired patterning recalls traditional craft while simultaneously echoing the pixelated language of digital networks. This dual reading allows the building to bridge heritage and technology—an apt metaphor for a contemporary African telecommunications company.
NetOne Zambia Headquarters demonstrates how corporate architecture in Africa can go beyond functionality to embrace identity, culture, and innovation. It is at once an efficient office building, a sustainable design intervention, and a symbol of a brand deeply connected to both its people and its technological future.
