the clients goal is to create a facility which will accommodate NCAA
competitions. the program brief included adding an additional 3 indoor
competition courts (for a total of 6), seating for 1000 spectators,
updated locker rooms, an observation lobby/lounge, and an administrative
suite for coaches and staff. Due to site limitations, this scheme
proposes removing the current locker rooms and offices from the existing
metal building and replacing these spaces with one additional court.
the metal building could then be expanded to cover two additional
courts, for a total of 6, and a spectator mezzanine could be attached to
the northern side of the existing building. the addition of this
“skybox” would allow one to view the indoor courts to the south and the
outdoor courts to the north.
a new pavilion is proposed north of the existing building to
accommodate new locker rooms on the lower/court level, with offices,
public restrooms, and an observation lounge on the upper/terrace level.
in an effort to enhance the street-scape, the terrace is designed as a
linear urban park. the terrace will connect the existing building and
the spectator mezzanine to the new pavilion.sustainable
features include: green roofs, rainwater harvesting, low
flush water closets, waterless urinals, renewable energy (solar array),
permeable paving, and bio-swales.
