C+GA provided architectural and planning services for the "Navy Green" development, which serves as a cornerstone for rebuilding the Wallabout community. The overall design is organized around the central idea that responsible development must occur in harmony with the surrounding communities and enhance the character of the neighborhood. This sustainable development is designed to comply with the NYSERDA Multi-Family Performance Program and is LEED ND certified.
R3 is a new $19 million affordable, low-income rental building with 101 units in the LEED NC program and the NYSERDA Multi-Family building program. The long facade of R3 is broken up to mimic the scale of the series of row houses and other buildings of a smaller scale that it faces. Community and laundry rooms open onto the shared landscaped courtyard. Energy efficient features include motion detectors along with a vapor air barrier outside of the masonry structure of the building. Each apartment is individually ventilated.
C+GA was the Executive Architect for the $15 million LEED NC-certified Supportive Housing consisting of 95 mini-dwelling units for formerly homeless and low-income individuals, and on-site supportive services. The facade is made up of corrugated metal anels with fins at the windows. Much of the interior is exposed concrete. The entry features a double-height lobby space with an oversized ramp to the common garden, which doubles as a gathering and performance space.
In addition to R3 and the Supportive Housing facility, there are 23 market rate townhouses on the site, for which C+GA is the architect. The townhouses are currently in construction. R3 and the Supportive Housing building were completed on-time and on-budget.
