Creating a new science city for Navi Mumbia was an opportunity to not only define an iconic building, but also to set in motion the education of millions. As India continues to develop past the internet age - science will become an increasingly vital part of our everyday lives. First class institutions that allow for exploration and contribute to the larger body of knowledge will be required for all major cities. MoSI (Museum of Science + Innovation) is a prototype for a uniquely Indian Experience. No longer a “Science City” but rather a “Science Ecosystem” where all parts are interdependent and sustainable - financially, environmentallyand culturally.Team: Brook Meier (lead), Sweta Meier, Ryan O’Connor, Chris Ludwig, Josh Ehr, Tuan TranStrategies & DiagramsOne of the most challenging aspects to this competition entry was to conceive of a design strategy that would not just take things from the landscape. But instead give something back to the land and the people of Mumbia. This took the form of water retention, energy storage, and education opportunities. Just as important as the overall museum layout, it was paramount to identify an economic strategy to keep a museum, an institution that generally loses money, in business. Two programs were added by our team to the overall request - a hotel and school dealing with science and innovation.
