Tampere has always been a frontrunner in the innovation exchange with the rest of Finland. The vision for this project is rooted in the intrinsic value of urban nature, aiming to cultivate a bottom-up approach that champions experimentation, pioneering efforts, and the communal sharing of cityscapes within Viinikanlahti. The ultimate goal? To continuously enhance the district's climate resilience and livability.
Through inclusive collaboration with the people of Tampere, the aim is to design, cultivate, and nurture a rich, sensorial, varied, blue-green, and site-specific blue-green urban nature within Viinikanlahti. This natural canvas will not only shape the district's future identity but also serve as a bulwark against climate instability, reflecting the city's unique innovative ethos.
Breaking away from the monotony of traditional development, the Natural Alliance project envisions a new unique district, where the lake and city merge and create a great setting for the everyday life for both the everyday lives of residents and visitors alike, of Viinikanlahti and Tampere. A strategy that values the natural connection, the industrial history, and the life that is lived today and in the future of Tampere.
Revitalizing the shoreline design restores the city’s relationship with the water and the geometric design increases the shoreline dimension enhancing the contact between the city and water. This expansive coastal infrastructure fosters local connectivity and recreational opportunities, as establishes a responsible framework for the district's future growth.
In harmony with the local context, the project envisions a dense urban grid that gradually transitions into a more human-scale, walkable environment as it approaches the shoreline. Along the lake promenade, lush vegetation and water features intertwine, creating an inviting network of social spaces and activities.
The Natural Alliance rethinks how we design, build, finance, and share our future homes, neighborhoods, and cities.
