A WALK OF HONOR
Amongst the integral landscape of the museums North East corner, this new proposal establishes a clear and timeless gesture, synonymous with the spirit and rich history of the people and communities honored.
The Native American Veteran Memorial merges silently with the existing structure and natural environment, seamlessly integrating into the museums vegetation, pathways and plazas. The memorial seeks to exploit and enhance the natural beauty of the wetlands and meadows, allowing visitors to become momentarily secluded from the urban condition. Formally, a continuously curving line, the bold clarity of the composition is redolent of the rich circuitous history of the Native American people. The architectural expression and its inherent materiality
respond harmoniously to the rhythm of its context while establishing an enduring power through its virtuous character.
With an emphasis on a nominal impact to the property, each stainless steel walkway module is
fabricated off site. This process allows for an efficient and expeditious construction methodology focused on precision. Thin structural elements, discreetly implanted, allow the walk to lightly float above the earth and amidst the trees, generating an ethereal experience. Celebrating the sacrifice and patriotism of these veterans, the monument tells their essential story through quotes and narratives engraved into the reflective components of the memorial. The resulting experience is indelible and enduring, intentionally reduced to a vibrant dialogue, one of tribute, admiration and spiritual rejuvenation.
