A New Cultural Epicentre in the City
The position of the museum hinges between the city fabric to the north leading to the theatre metro station, the recent waterfront development to the southwest, the main harbour to the south and the civic frontage marked by the Oslo Town Hall and the adjacent square.
These key urban elements are currently divided by the existing car park with the introduction of the new museum provides the city the opportunity to reconnect these elements whilst forming a new spatial emblem for the collective culture of Norway.
The Urban ambition is to create a new cultural epicentre, which adds to the current waterfront developments of Oslo, whilst acknowledging and respecting the significance of the historical context of the site and surroundingcivic landmarks.
