The total built-up area of the project is 41100 square meters with a plan size of roughly 250 meters by 200 meters. The architecture is designed as the training base for national teams of extreme sports, providing skateboard skatepark, skateboard street, vert ramp, wind tunnel, BMX freestyle, surfing; wall climbing etc. Its infrastructure for skateboarding meets the standards for world championships and Olympics.
Coexistence with environment: The contour of architecture is the shape of plum blossom. With its curved and undulating roof, the architecture complements and echoes back to scenery of surrounding mountains and rivers. The curved outline and polylateral expression of the design blends into the natural site, achieving maximum coexistence with environment.
The perception of architecture: The continuous and irregular outline/boundary of the architecture creates an almost fluid space form, which mirrors the free movement and unceasing venturings beyond the limit in extreme sports. The form and space highlight the passion and spirits of extreme sports.
Civic architecture: On basis of flexible and active design strategy, the architecture embraces open space and outdoor tracks/courses; it also creates an active moving line by adding an outdoor ramp leading directly to the second floor. The enhanced interaction between floors strongly encourages public involvement. It aims to serve as an effective medium for improving community relations and local cultural identity.
Active architecture: The design of the project realizes active adjustments of physical environment by using an active sensing technology. Natural lighting and ventilation are important part of the design. The roof windows can be automatically opened to achieve chimney effect, and to improve indoor air quality. The automatic central air-conditioning system, equipped with CO2 monitoring and fresh air flow, is used to ensure the thermo-comfortability.
