This project is located in konkan region of Maharashtra at Kankavali. The site is exactly on Mumbai-goa highway with west facing. The client had a single storeyed existing structure, which was only allowed to dismantle except RCC work. The existing structure floor level was 6’0” below highway level.
Therefore we would enter at mid-level between existing floor and planned first floor. To avoid mixing of functions due to level differences. We created an indoor garden space, before we enter living spaces. This garden space has double height sloping roof with skylights giving a grand look as we enter.
The existing level is redesigned to accommodate 1 bedroom, living areas, puja, dining, kitchen and utility space. In planning due to existing columns it was a challenge to out focus it in living areas where we provided a space without wall giving it an ambience of large space. Space was only divided with glass partitions. The living areas were enhanced with bright colours and Italian flooring. The French door in living room makes the indoor landscape part of it. Puja room is also provided with double height roof with skylight to give daylight to spaces below. Also it is connected to the family room on upper floor. Puja room has no walls on sides, its floor is just lifted above living area with star white vitrified flooring and a glass floor with Led light and white polish pebbles below it, at living area level. This makes puja area virtually separated. The upper floor rooms are designed with a sloping roof with more height to reduce the humid effect. Dressing room and toilet are planned with adjoining each other which separates from bed area. Family room accommodates a indian seating area with private gym and attached covered terrace with a view of coconut plantation on east side. A small home office is also provided with road front, also accessible from inside home.
The entrance lobby at existing structure level being in middle has no external wall, therefore the passage above is provided with glass floor and roof for the passage with skylight. This keeps the entrance lobby well lighted.
