The City of Tarpon Springs hired David Conner + Associates to renovate a section of the Pinellas Trail and design a fitness park for the community. The Pinellas Trail is a beautiful, heavily used 47-mile linear park and recreation facility extending from St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs, Florida. The Safford Avenue Recreation Corridor a multi-use facility providing pedestrian access to the many small towns and communities along its half mile trail and 1.2 acre park site. Open to anyone, it provides a unique, protected greenspace for walking, jogging, skating and biking.

DC+A’s design for the project included a fitness park complete with outdoor fitness equipment, an group exercise lawn, walking trails, and a play area. The Pinellas Trail and streetscape renovations consist of adjacent sidewalks on the east and west sides of the street to provide for optimal pedestrian circulation combined with landscape enhancements along the Trail median. The final project transforms the Trail as it passes through the city into a beautiful landscape experience that safely protects pedestrians from vehicular traffic.
