The main goal of Myszków City's Culture Center thermal modernization was to decrease energy consumption and to improve the building aesthetics. However, through the use of the certain technical solutions and a proper illumination it was possible to achieve a much more surprising effect that allowed the citizens to recognize the value of the building, both historic and visual.
A simple, modern building has degraded overtime. Commercials covered both walls and windows, eclipsing other elements of the building. A set of two mosaics, works of Stanisław Łyszczarz, remained entirely unnoticed. The crucial idea was to bring out all of the valuable features through simplicity of the materials and structure's unification.
Building's simple black & white aesthetics is supplemented by the colorful mosaics and a warm illumination that defines important structural elements of the building.
The frontal facade consists of a black, steel frame, fashioned with veil of an expanded metal mesh that surrounds the building's main entrance. "Miejski Dom Kultury" (City's Culture Center) neon sign was located above the portal. Its font was inspired by the handwriting of building's original designer, thus creating a powerful element of the identification and identity, combining both the past and the present.
Mosaics were persevered and renovated, covered with a layers of a protective glass and illuminated, bringing them to the light and allowing their proper recognition.
Special commercial display cases were built into the facade, emphasizing the vertical composition of the building's sides and rear.
