The New Spirit of Myslbek Shopping Gallery
In the context of a fabulous location in Prague, and a passage named after a famous sculptor, our strategy focused on the transformation of Myslbek into a unique atmosphere – a prestigious, transitional urban retail space – a passage full of energy, meaning, art and mystery. Our proposal is about capturing a moment of discovering art engaging space, exciting imagination and leaving a lasting memory in the form of a re-invented shopping gallery.
We super-position here an element of sculptural significance, which not only attracts visitors, but as well animates the space and brings people together in the spirit of a spontaneous cultural moment. The ‘VORTEX’, was a collaboration with glass artist Maxim Velcovsky (LASVIT), which represents not only the fine craft of Czech Glass art, but as well expresses the axial asymmetry of the 80 meter long passage in the historical center of Prague.
Myslbek Shopping Gallery started as an international design competition, won by CMCARCHITECTS, which later then entailed the complete reconstruction of an existing, twenty year old passage losing foot traffic with fading visual qualities. CMC invited Maxim Velcovsky to collaborate with the inventing of an art piece, anchoring with meaning the DNA and rich tradition of artists formerly working in this area.
