François Valentiny’s bold design for the Mozarteum Brasileiro Theatre features two different overlapping seating areas, one indoors and one outdoors, each with a capacity for 1,100 visitors.
Both the design and acoustics were orchestrated by Luxembourg-based Valentiny Architects, known for their work on cultural venues such as the Concert Hall Saarbrücken (Germany), the House of Mozart – Kleines Festspielhaus Salzburg (Austria), and the Luxembourg Pavilion Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
The Mozarteum Brasileiro Theatre will house various cultural and socio-educational activities, becoming a permanent center of cultural production. It also includes an annex called ”The Facilities” building, with eight rehearsal rooms, a spacious bar and meeting rooms. A curved concrete facade contrasts with triangular openings and is completely integrated with the natural environment of Trancoso, featuring imposing etched bronze panels from the renowned Brazilian artist Maria Bonomi. The engravings refer to both the local nature with its impressive cliffs and the birth of the Brazilian nation.
