Project : Museum Service Bar, Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania

Location : Pennsylvania

Firm : George Ranalli Architect

The Service Bar is a craft cocktail bar carefully inserted into a whimsical art museum, showcasing environmentally conscious fine art, in historic Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. The 15,000-sq.ft. building, circa 1846, originally a 19th Century wireworks factory, features red brick and stone facades, an underground aqueduct, original maple hardwood floors, and an exposed rock wall. The new Service Bar adjoins the museum’s cafe dining and premier jazz club featuring world-class performers. The interior style is inspired by facets of the host structure and the owners’ lives, including their family history and passionate interest in community and nature. The design extends the building’s life cycle by adapting a collection of unused spaces and materials into a new context for expanded visitor amenities and office space. Each component is crafted sustainably and has its own unique story.
