This is a reinterpretation of a previously done university project based on the same concept it was initially based on. The site is located in a hilly area in KhewraS alt Range, Pakistan, with a steep depression in the middle that stretches towards the south. This addresses a number of crucial issues like drainage, accessibility etc.
The generative form evolves on the theory of D’Arcy Thompson’s transformation, from the natural existing terrain of the site. It states that if a point of a form in a cartesian co-ordinate system is moved to another position, all the other points in the system also move in the direction, which correspond to the lines of new co-ordiantes.
Generative tools “Grasshopper 3D and Rhinoceros” were used to develop a relationship between characteristics of site and its corresponding evolving form.
The initial ideas was derived from the phenomenon of constant erosion of a salt rock “crystals” by water pressure over a long period of time (Salt on a microscopic level comprises of a variety of platonic crystals. The resulting surface created has punctures, spaces, and volumes that blend into one another, lacking clear platonic/ solid definition. It is rather plastic and like a fluid frozen in time. However, it its always reminiscent of its original prototype; narrating its story of transformation.
The facility hosts galleries and display areas of complete range of natural history artifacts including geology, Flora and Fauna. Parking area is the basement at two levels, an indoor and outdoor cafeteria and souvenir shop on the first floor, and galleries on the second floor.
To give the neighborhood, with initial set of conditions a rejuvenated and enhanced ambiance, I came up with idea of developing a sense of movement, play, comfortable and melodious rhythm. The curves and corrugation in glass and aluminum overlap each other at times and subtly blend into another volume. Its like a movement in disguise with intangible presence.
