Due to the location in the city of Linz, the voestalpine steel company needs to pursue alternative corporate growth strategies. For this reason the idea developed to concentrate the existing scattered parking spaces, which use up a lot of space, to a centrally located car park. Regarding the steel manufacturer’s specific request, we succeeded conceptually and constructively in highlighting the processing of metal within its own factory buildings.Trapezoidal sheet metal with a series of bends forms the roof, the outer façade and the porch of the bus station. The supporting framework of the five storey car park consists of undisguised steel beams and uprights, a steel construction which was developed by means of fire simulations and offers slender proportions as well as cheaper building costs. The five differently coloured square parking levels with 65 metres in length and 19 metres in total height, built above the company’s own rail track to accommodate 800 vehicles, gives a general delicate and airy impression. Each parking level consists of ramps and lifts, one of which leads directly to the bus station. The surrounding office buildings can be directly connected to the upper levels of the car park via foot bridges.
