Due to the increasing demand for affordable residential living space beyond single-family home developments, the municipality of Wörth decided to build a KommWFP funded multi-family apartment building.
The design creates the endpoint of a new development area and marks a meticulously designed opening for the southern village entrance.
Orienting the courtyard towards the village signals openness and an integration of the building with the town structure.
The placement of the two buildings in an L shape creates a generous, clearly framed communal area within the courtyard, and private garden spaces for the apartments along the outer perimeter.
Ground floor apartments can be accessed directly from the communal court, the upper floor apartments are accessed via an access balcony. As a transition zone, this „community balcony“ offers more than the function of accessing the apartments: the width of the balcony and high quality wooden surfaces create a dwelling space which allows for communication amongst neighbours.
Five different apartment types offer broad usage and provide resident diversity. All apartments feature set-through spacious living-dining rooms. Private outdoor-spaces of the apartments – large loggias or terraces – face south and west.
The municipality, in its role as a landlord, is aware of their Rolemodel function. Therefore, they chose to construct the building entirely as a solid wood construction, from the elevation above ground level to the roof.
