2018 – COMMENDATION, Renovation / Modernisation over $2M, Learning Environments Australasia VIC Chapter Awards
The focus of this project was to create an integrated campus footprint, improve the effectiveness and flexibility of the learning and teaching spaces, and enhance the street frontage of the School.
The middle of the school was opened up to create new active and passive recreation areas, including a new pedestrian promenade. A new Arts and Design Hub was designed to bring the facilities in-line with the high achieving Arts Program at the school, including Visual Communications, MacLab, Media and Prototyping Lab, as well as a FabLab (digital fabrication) and a HackLab (computer hardware). In addition, a new Food Technology space created a ‘MasterChef’ style environment, which enhanced student engagement.
New flexible learning spaces were designed around collaborative learning and breakout spaces, as well as being provided with direct connections to the outdoor learning areas. The learning spaces were designed to start off as traditional use spaces, with the ability to open up as teachers experimented with collaborative teaching.
The result of the works is a reinvigorated image, positive community feedback, and importantly, growing school enrolments.
