Muelles House is located in a gated community in the outskirts of the city of Buenos Aires. It is situated in a fan-shaped plot and lies on its south side, because the main idea of the project was to guarantee good sunlight from the north and the best views towards one of the lakes of the neighborhood.
The ground floor program includes a guest room that must be independent from the main volume, but, at the same time, it needs to have easy access to it. The curved gallery serves as a connector between these two spaces. The ground floor is designed to be a large public area with an open kitchen in the center so that the host could cook and entertain at the same time. The kitchen is slightly elevated from the living room, so that this last one doesn’t obstruct the views towards the water. The living room opens up to a spacious gallery that includes an outdoor cooking area and it’s surrounded by the garden on three of its sides. The pool was designed with an infinity edge so that it blends with the lake that it’s in front. In order to balance the unevenness of the terrain and to connect the interior and the exterior, the stairs of the living room were extended towards the garden.
The first-floor plan has three bedrooms and a laundry room. The master suite is placed parallel with the back of the plot, in order to guarantee the best views of the surroundings. In spite of not being placed in the same direction as the master suite, the other two bedrooms also have views to the lake thanks to carefully studied angles and distances between our project and the house next door. At the front of the house there is a terrace surrounded by a green roof that works as a second gallery, accessed by a separated concrete staircase. A series of patios distributed around the house let the natural light into the bathrooms without sacrificing privacy.
The materials used in the house include exposed concrete and wooden brise-soleils in the ground floor, and black plaster and aluminum brise-soleils in the first floor.
