As a result of big flood in Thailand 2011, there is requirement from owner to renovate abandoned house in order to stay for a few years while restoring the flooded house. The key concept is simple to construct with cost saving. After exploring many different ideas between architects and residents to fit three generation plus maid into existing area which is a lot smaller than the flooded house, we challenged existing space by using pixelated technique. The metaphor is to push & pull existing elements and then expand those elements to create outdoor enclosure. The decent space of external court makes internal area on lower floor more relax ie inside-out approach. The architects have done researched about enclosed space spirit which is eastern knowledge. These knowledge is well know across Asia such as China, India, Japan, Middle East especially Thailand which we have elevated space called 'Chan'. Dweller could bond with ' Chan' implicitly
Most of existing elements especially walls and ceiling had been removed to make internal space larger and more comfortable with more efficient circulation. Some of the strategies to achieve decent internal space stated above were to introduce white color throughout project and enlarge window components ie make indoor area less intense.
The feature walls on the landscape had been placed randomly to introduce casual outdoor living with internal space connection. Two existing perennial trees had been relocated to focal point of the external court. The rest of the perennial trees remained the same but design landscape elements to suit surrounding. One of the examples was the perennial tree over upper light well transparent roof covering next to master bedroom / balcony.
