The architecture of the proposed building for Suzuki follows grid lines
for the structural layout, the overall shapes and dimensions, as well as
the glazed and tiles facade system. Therefore, these guidelines are
spread out within the building to define major spaces: technical and
vertical circulations are concealed within 3 strips. Doing so allows
more flexibility in the “technical-free” spaces dedicated to public
access and private uses. Following the design brief, the showroom and public services are
located on the ground floor while the offices and meeting rooms are on
the 2nd floor. In order to enhance the relationship between the two
floors, and hence, customers and staff, a large movement is created by
pushing the 2nd floor slab towards the back of the building. The
triangular void offers the possibility to see and be seen from one side
to the other. Continuing this process, the ground floor partitions are
also pushed back to each corner. This process enables diagonal views for
better clarity and more interactions between the people.
This large movement of pleated planes links the entire building in a
generous folding/unfolding process. The showroom in its entirety blends
the different architectural features, materials and functions in a
unique and bold design. The Suzuki brand represents years of trust and
respect for its customers, hence the Singapore showroom embodies this
sincere and honest relationship with the public.
