Designed as an installation for Union Square in New York City, this trellis system is meant to be an interactive experience for visitors to the park. Its original scale was to be approximately ten feet tall and four feet wide. The idea was to develop a moveable system in which users could manipulate the bench-trellis configuration to be able to sit on, walk over, or spend some time under the different areas of the trellis in order to provide a place for people to interact with the park. Once we built our half-scale mock-up, the five foot maximum height was found to be rather stimulating for interaction and our reviewers had no hesitation before climbing up on top of the structure and jumping up and down to test the strength of our connections and our concept.
