This 3,600 sf custom home is nestled at the top of a butte in Bend, Oregon, overlooking the Cascade mountains. Green building and sustainability were factors considered throughout the design and building process. In order to preserve the natural features of the site and orient the home towards the dramatic mountain views, this challenging site with large rock outcroppings, slopes in front and back, and many mature trees, left a small footprint in which to build. The owners wished for a modern home that incorporated bits of European mountain-style.
The result has been defined by the owners as Mountain Modern. The Great Room incorporates an open dining nook inspired by an Alpine pub, and a large modern kitchen. Green building materials and features include Bamboo flooring over a radiant slab; Countertops incorporating recycled glass and recycled paper; Low-flow plumbing fixtures, Low-VOC finishes; Locally fabricated windows; Engineered lumber; High-efficiency gas boiler and high density insulation.
