Located in Gauteng’s “Silicon Valley” or more commonly known as Midrand, the Morvest Business Group Head Quarters development is a state-of-the-art office campus constructed on prime real estate directly facing the N1 motorway.
With the real estate in this area being much sought after, it meant that the design solution had to take maximum brand exposure in mind, hence the prominent Eastern facade along the motorway.
With the client brief also requesting the incorporation of sustainable and green technologies, the building envelope and tectonic was a direct result of the implementation of basic bio climatic strategies and passive design principals such as deep, shaded fenestration areas on the Northern facades, incorporating solar shelves for optimizing the use of natural light and appropriately treated Eastern facade with vertical aluminium louvres.
The Southern facades are treated with thick vertical masonry fins to protect the interior from late afternoon western sun. On the Western facades emphasis was put on smaller window openings where possible and again appropriately shaded. In certain areas the Western facade windows were articulated to face north instead of directly west, specifically in the training facility class rooms where natural light was utilised for trainee well being.
