With an abundance of vegetation surrounding the area, the opportunity to create a diverse horticultural experience was eminent. By utilizing the existing environment and landscape, the owners of Moran Court sought to develop an additional area to enhance the outdoor presence. The liveable space of the house had become too cluttered for the family, and the large expanse of yard on their property was considered for renovation.
The design of the new extension compliments the given slope of the land by mimicking the angular nature of the site. The roof form was manipulated to taper towards the same direction as the present boundary. Placed on an average house, this cathedral ceiling would prove to be an overwhelming structure, however, the existing 1.8m retaining walls surrounding the title boundary created a balance between the existing site. To accomplish an integration between the dwelling and the landscape, full height glazing panels are used to facilitate the process. These panels have been installed without curtains or blinds to accentuate the openness and vulnerability associated with being outside. A visual connection to the scenery assists in drawing the eye away from the built form and to focus on the landscape.
