The project concerns the restoration of the Monumental and Historical Halls located on the first floor of Palazzo Capponi alle Rovinate in Florence.
This prestigious Palace from fifteenth century, privately owned for generations by Capponi family, overlooks the Arno river and is a work of Renaissance architecture, with high ceilings, beautiful interior spaces and terraces overlooking the Arno river.
“Salone delle Armi”, the largest of the Historical Halls with a 8,5 m high ceiling, has decorations and sculptures from eighteenth century. “Sala Rossa” and “Sala Gialla” take their names from the colour of the silk fabric upholstery on the wall created by Capponi family; the “Sala Rossa” hosts the private Chapel where is preserved the beautiful painting by Jacopo Pontormo.
The project is about the renovation of the fresco paintings, silk fabrics, marble floorings, the wooden cofferings on the ceiling and the works to equip in terms of services the historical interiors to serve as the Stanford Breyer Center for Overseas Studies in Florence.
The design choices propose the wirings and conducts pass on the perimeter under the floor, dismantled and catalogued in each part. The technical elements as totems and fancoils carter, in dark metal finishing, assume a contemporary and minimal language without interfering with the historical background.
