This project presents the interior renovation of a space located in a traditional catalan modernist house on the mountain of Montjuic, Barcelona. It is a listed house, full of architectural details that had been pushed into the background after some tasteless renovations made by the previous owners. The objective was to rescue the original values of the house and integrate them with a contemporary intervention.
To achieve this, it is necessary to first understand the history and architecture of the building so that when introducing new elements, we can preserve the essence of Catalan modernist architecture.
The original structure of the apartment was maintained, such as the high ceilings and hydraulic mosaic tiles. In addition, some elements such as wooden doors were restored. For the contemporary intervention, concrete was chosen as a neutral and artisanal material that highlights the recovered hydraulic pieces. It also dialogues with the exposed ceramic ceiling and the brick walls. The custom-made furniture is made of oak wood, integrating with the rest of the carpentry and creating a cozy atmosphere. As for the kitchen furniture, large minimalist white cabinets were chosen, adding elegance and providing the necessary functionality for modern living.
The interior design of the space has timeless atmosphere that allows the duality of perceiving a contemporary and modern space while also integrating the original values of the house. The result is a renovation that not only respects the history and architecture of the building but also adapts to the needs and tastes of the owners, creating a unique space.
