Located on a former railway site, the Montigny-lès-Metz technical centre is responsible for the maintenance of the new trains on the Nancy–Metz–Luxembourg line. As the first railway maintenance centre built entirely from timber, the site demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable materials sourced from sawmills in the Jura and Doubs regions. The project incorporates bio-based and geosourced materials, as well as the reuse of materials on-site. On-site reuse includes, in particular, the crushing of concrete from demolition work for reuse as road sub-base and the reuse of Jaumont stone for the construction of gabion walls. The paving is made from Vosges sandstone. Excavated soil is also reused. Rainwater from the roof is collected to meet the sanitary and cleaning needs of the railway facilities. A 1,650 m² area of photovoltaic panels is planned, along with solar thermal panels for hot water production.
