Montevideo 285 is an apartment building in Belo Horizonte whose project and development were both made by the office. It has a deviant floor with bigger windows, split levels, hanging planters, and “colonial” ceiling height of 3.5 meters, which was enabled by the maximum use of the permitted height. The balcony of the uneven story makes another reference to the colonial architecture. The rooms and bedrooms are oriented to the morning sun and protected by sunshades, and all seven apartments have different plans.
Both shades and drainpipes that distinguish the façade are cheap materials here employed in a context averse to innovations – the local real estate market.
More than a project, the building is part of the office’s positioning, at the same time practical and experimental, which was only possible due to our double role as architects and developers.
