One of the first Wineries in Mexico turned 25 and needed to be rebuilt to new standards preparing for future growth.
The project called to maintain an old structure and build around it to expand and transform the winery into a contemporary facility preserving the sense of place
and timelessness within a restricted budget.
Our approach was to cover the existing facility with a henequen rope that melts with the existing landscape and is structured in a way that lets the cord move with the air and bring a sense of lightness in remembrance to Mexico's rich textile handcrafted traditions, it also serves as a second wall that reduces energy costs significantly.
Most of the new facility was built under the mountain besides the old one and reintegrated by covering it with rammed earth to preserve proportions.
A Cabernet Sauvignon-colored long perforated structure intercepts both
buildings and serves as a connection and external reception area that remarks and enhances the valley as the prime participant of the visit while the grapes come alive on the visitors as the sunlight creates shadows through the perforated cabernet celling. We provided with small vineyard by the entrance and tasting area so the visitor can experience the final product and touch the different variety of grapes being produced .
We were very careful to mantain the winemaking process efficiently designed trough gravity and provided the visitors with a separate path overlooking the different areas without interfering on the production.
the cellar, carved into the mountain also gives a dramatic finish and a strong identity while being efficient.
the result is a project that talks softly to the senses transmitting a strong branding and being efficient and sustainably.
