The owners wanted to renovate their mid-century modern home on the West Side of Los Angeles, originally designed in 1949 by Graham Latta. Years of overgrown vegetation and layers of paint disguised the house’s simple, geometric forms. uniFORM-ARC’s approach was to reveal the simplicity of the original structure through a series of well-executed details. Pecan shell blasting the original siding restored the beauty of Redwood without damaging it. The new soffits, projections and garage door were clad in cement board, architecturally framing the redwood siding while defining the home’s overall forms. Hidden gutters were installed in the new projections, producing a much cleaner look. Artificial turf installed in the new driveway pattern is a low maintenance way to allow rainwater to be absorbed by the site naturally.
