Sited to centralize the Riverhead campus and allow for future expansion of the academic core, the design of the building responds to current needs while defining the next phases of development. The new facility subdivides the current large open space into two more appropriately-scaled quadrangles, which will each be visually connected by the central, transparent great hall of the library. The Montaukett Learning Resource Center includes a research as well as a lending library, a technology center, gallery/café, lecture hall, and study areas open to the campus’ 25,000 students. This innovative green project was designed to utilize wind energy, graywater, argon glass, and sunshades
