Monin Hill House was built on high hill in the middle of fertile forest, on Phagnan Island, Thailand. The house consists of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room and a pantry.
The main view of the house is the high-angled view in the front of the house where the far away sea and Samui Island can be seen. The back view is the forest, next to the house.
The front and the back of the building were designed with high wall and large glass doors to open up the view. The two sides of the building were thick 2-layered walls. The outside walls are cast concrete walls which were meant to protect the building from the heat of the sun and external noises. The interior walls are made from concrete blocks with some voids inside to reduce the heat detention of the walls.
When the front and the back of the house were designed to take view, the concrete gutters were placed in the middle space of the building. To reduce the weight of long concrete gutter, the gutter was designed with light channels by embedding the gutter with PVC pipes and cover the ends with small glass bowls that can easily be found in local market.
