The melding of cultural and commercial worlds with a 75 story expansion tower produces a unique problem and opportunity for the exploration of program and aesthetic. A mixed use tower that has a variety of programs and a variety of expressions which blur and intermingle throughout the project, creating a tower typology that is much more like an urban city than a tower. Using three distinct organizations, the MoMA expansion explores the programmatic expressions ranging from the sleek to the highly articulated and starts to blend between these conditions to make a numerous range of organizations. The exploration through these variations has created a rare look into migrating programmatic adjacencies and experiential effects which starts to truly meld the cultural and commercial aspects of this project.
