The master plan calls for a com-penetration between the school building and the surrounding, which is designed as a didactical green space working as both children play ground and collector for typical regional vegetation such as “Bellussi” vineyard. The school will be composed by linear modules of hexagonal classrooms free to assemble, which branch off from a central core that works as a hub.In this central structure will be subsequently build a dinning hall, a library and other common activities areas. Classrooms present a hexagonal shape, resembling the beehive cells, in order to minimize the ratio of internal volume and dispersive facades, improving the overall building energy efficiency. Thanks to different possibilities of openings orientation, the hexagonal shape allows to achieve the perfect natural ventilation-illumination ratio generating a passive-like building in synergy with a high efficiency energy system. In order to obtain a “A+” energy level certificate the structural system is made out of reinforced concrete pillars plugged with light bricks walls. The entire structure is covered by 12-15 centimeters insulation panels. Extensive use of thermal-break structures and insulating glasses has been done. For what concerns direct solar shading a motorized brise soleil-like system has been used. This strategy implies also the possibility of a total openings closure during night time preventing the building from dissipating too much energy in form of thermal flow.
