Office/ Library structure to compliment an architectural stunning mid century modern residence:
A modular (prefab) design was used for the addition in the yard. The steel based construction is similar to the 1950 method implemented by Pierre Koenig for the case study house #22 in LA, and allows for an easy elevation (“stilts”) of 6 ft. above the ground required by FEMA law for the area. To lower the costs the space was only equipped with electricity and AC, instead of a full built out approach with plumbing.
The structure is an ASUL design and a “Both Build” option, in which ASUL erects the steel frame, walls, and roof and the clients, finalizes the build (exterior / interior) out incl. exterior cladding and mechanicals.
The design/ layout of the structure were developed by ASUL and CSCP Consult (Celestino Piralla), based on the available modules ASUL is offering.
A 16 x 20 interior was combined with a 16 x 8 deck/ porch option to allow for the large staircase that was needed for access the elevated (6ft above ground) structure.
The structure is sheeted completely in corrugated galvalume as a cost effective and weather resistant option for the humid south east climate.
The interior flooring is by FLOR (Toy Poodle 2) in green, off white and orange and is layout out in the company logo of CSCP Consult.( http://www.flor.com/toy-poodle-persimmon.html) FLOR has approx. 44 % overall recycled content in the FLOR tiles, which makes it an attractive sustainable option., with easy installation.
Furniture was kept sparse to stay within the modern clean lines, and consists of EBay finds (chairs, tulip table, hanging lamp) and CB2 desks and storage carts. (http://www.cb2.com/office-furniture/office/fold-desk/f5958?fromLocation=search)- The furniture both new and reused are adding to the sustainable overall of the project.
Walls are painted with Sherwin Williams Duration- their “Green” option in long lasting paint.
Shelving is industrial grade by ISS.- http://www.issdesigns.com/
For cooling a mini split level system by LG Neo Plasma gives an economic and environmentally approach to cooling. http://www.lg.com/uk/air-conditioning/room-air-conditioners/LG-S09AW.UE0.jsp
In the cooler month, the open doors and porch of the structure allow the residents to work with “natural” a/c, due to a constant breeze 6ft above ground.
