The design iv studio focused on issues relating to urban density in the River North district of San Antonio. Students were to develop independent residential projects throughout the city while working on a comprehensive master plan that addressed issues of public space, congestion, access to community elements, and infrastructure. My project was targeted as high end real estate and was located predominantly on the 900 block of Broadway Street and 9th Street. It was strategically placed to make the most of the surrounding projects' ground floor programs and adjacent Maverick Park and riverwalk entrances. The building itself took on a cloud-like facade of glass and steel, and its geometry was dictated by the aggregation of a single, albeit very uniquely styled, luxury unit. Much attention was paid to how the units would join, but the final design called for a disconnected program allowing for front and rear entrances along a jogging path through the building. Where the front and rear doors of adjacent units met created a pocket of public space. The building, with its engaging modular assembly and targeted clientele, is an attempt to inject a sense of youthful vigor into a relatively young portion of the riverwalk.
