The project was for a young couple who were soon to have their first child. Their home featured a Victorian era interior, which they were very fond of, but they felt restricted by the home's design and were seeking to incorporate more modern elements to it with a view to the future as their family grows.
They requested an amalgamation of styles between both past and present and by undertaking a full interior redesign they hoped to add an additional storey to the home which in itself will add an extra two bedrooms as well as an extra two toilets.
Special additions:
• An L-shaped conversion of the present loft
• Increase the amount of floors from 2 to 3 and adding a new staircase by undertaking an extension
• Add a family living space and open plan kitchen
• Add 2 new bedrooms and bathrooms
• Undertake an extensive interior refurbishment and landscaping outside
The Solution:
The clients desire for an amalgamation between traditional and modern design features required us to communicate and discuss their over goals and end vision for the project. Utilising concept designs and 3D modelling assisted us greatly in this planning phase enabling us to realise a suitable and preferred outcome for them.
To assist with the re-development of the home, Kroos architects were able to provide a number of drawings and plans which enabled the project to come to fruition and progress successfully. The addition of the extra bedrooms and bathrooms was able to be achieved through a loft conversion while the removal of a pre-existing wall enabled the creation of a new kitchen space as well as an open-plan design feel for living areas.
There was also some time constraints in place as the arrival of the client’s first child meant they could not vacate the home for very long. Within a time frame of 4 weeks we were able to complete the project to a liveable standard and we assisted in the time saving process by undertaking some direct decision making ourselves.
The Result:
We were able to successfully complete the client’s vision of a home that incorporates both an existing Victorian style along with the addition of more contemporary design elements. The addition of two extra bedrooms and bathrooms will meet the family’s needs as they continue to grow, as will re-designed kitchen and living spaces, and the external features of the property also benefitted from renovation.
