This is a custom home designed for a young couple with small children on a small “tear-down” lot in Rowayton, Ct. The property is in a flood zone & the existing house was damaged by Hurricane Sandy. It didn’t make sense to rebuild, so a new house was designed to elevate the house above the base flood elevation. The area is very flat, yet the first floor of the house is elevated 6′ above the street to be above the base flood elevation. A retaining wall around the perimeter of the property allowed the yard to built up around the house, which visually reduces the height of the house above street level.
The goal was to design a house with clean lines with simple detailing both inside & out, so the house was designed in the “modern farmhouse” style.
Exterior materials include cedar clapboard siding, asphalt shingle & copper roofing, PVC trim, stone veneer
