One of Ocean Beach's last undeveloped beach side cottages has been remodeled into a 2800 sqft. modern home with 180 degree views of the ocean. The clients are prominent San Diego professionals who work from home, so the expansion focused on creating a commanding ocean view from the home office. The main living space was elevated to be flooded with natural light and open onto a large outdoor deck. The contemporary design features several energy-saving techniques such as large angular overhangs and functional windows at every elevation. Vertical fins create both shade and cooling, maximizing air circulation without compromising the focus on sunset views. The flat roof allows for three stories to take advantage of the ocean breezes and expansive view. The overall effect is that of a "lifeguard tower," where the owners can truly take in the Southern California environment where they live and work.
