THYSSENKRUPP ELEVATOR ARCHITECTURE AWARD-Tower X

Mod System X

Type
The MOD SYSTEM X
workstation is mounted in the floor of the proposed Millenium Tower
where data and power lines feed. It may be modulated in groups of 1 to
4 and the fan-like partitions can be easily lowered to encourage
collaborations. Indirect lighting eases eye strain. The
ergonomic chair swivels and is fully adjustable in
height, lumbar support and tilt. When collapsed the entire work
station, monitor, chair and all is flush with the ground. (The overall depth is 200mm.) When few people are
on staff, the room opens up with clear vistas across the Tokyo skyline. Tectonics: Medium Density Fibreboard is finished with a durable low
emission latex coating. The indirect lighting cowl is glass-fibre
impregnated with gem-like reflective resins. Recycled metals form the
hydraulic cylinders and recycled plastics grace the chairs. To activate
the workstation, first the fan partition is raised, then the central
hydraulic mast. The chair back is folded erect and the light cowl is
raised on a tension arm along with the LCD
monitor. Shelves, desks and wings are then easily adjusted to the
desired heights and a hot coffee is poured. Voila: the worker is thus
activated.
