The Seoul-based studio Planning Korea has unveiled ʻThe Möbiusʼ, planned at a leisure island in Korea—Jeju.
Located at Jeju Airest City, ʻThe Möbiusʼ is the second edifice to be presented after the ʻJeju Cocoon Houseʼ among the six high-end maisons at Gotjawal Village. Jeju, the largest leisure island of East Asia, is gaining recognition worldwide due to its pristine and beautiful natural environment. Gotjawal, known as the lung of Jeju, is the unique natural forest formed above the volcanic rocks. Within the Gotjawal forest is Soomgol, the breathing valley of Gotjawal that embraces an eternal value through its biological diversity and ecological flexibility. The design motif of ʻThe Möbiusʼ lies in Soomgol of Gotjawal with an ecological mystique and eternity.
The unique form of the exterior, which roof is linked with the floor and walls in a continuous streamline, radiates aesthetic beauty provoked by the fluid curve, and also brings coziness to the internal spaces—as it seems as if the external skin carefully embraces the space within.
As the curve of the exterior skin is reflected into the interior space, the spatial characteristic of The Möbius is a unique one with soft, round boundaries. Due to such organic curves, the interior is configured with built-in furniture that is each individually designed to fit within the curvaceous form of the architecture. The maison is comprised of common areas with a gallery and living room on the 1st floor and a private area on the 2nd floor.
Openness is emphasized by the windows extending floor-to-ceiling on both sides, while the exterior band embraces the space as if it is gently wrapping around an egg. Openness is also further obtained upon the terraces that are provided for each space within the maison. Savoring beautiful views of the ocean and colorful, picturesque nature from the convenience at the maison by looking out the window, the inhabitant will experience this mystical space that holds colorful stories, inspiring people with fresh, new ideas.
The spacious living room and dining area are planned in consonance with the spatial features and also with the consideration of the convenience of the users. The outdoor pool in the front yard allows the resident with diverse use, as the space expands from the interior space to the terrace and the outdoor pool.
Through out the large windows on both sides of the second floor Master Bedroom are breathtaking views of Jeju; the vast ocean view towards the south and the view of Halla mountain towards the north.
The parking garage in the backyard is not your ordinary garage but a garage with an architectural style, resembling the round shape of the maison.
The underlying intention of Planning Korea for this organic space of The Möbius is to offer the designers and artists with a creative space that will enable them to get inspirations through flexible thinking. It will become a place for both relaxation and productivity—whether it be for creative work or business—towards the creative class who embraces great sensitivity.
