Where does the museum end and the city begins? The gardens, public spaces and cultural centers form part of our daily life.

“He does not make any ‘decorations’: his scenography’s are transformations of the pictorial space into a scenario space”, wrote Paul Westheim about the work of Juan Soriano. The only argument of the Guadalajara artist was to decipher the history of ideas departing from paintings, sculptures, scenography and designs. Soriano, radical and observant, often visited the Café Paris and walked around the city seeking faces and “witnesses of his delirium”.

“Thoughts that are not followed by a practical action are sterile”, he used to say. The Centro Cultural Juan Soriano contributes to this approximation. He returns artistic pragmatism to a collective space in Cuernavaca, Morelos. It is all about a narration which is built by collecting moments, spatial sequences, routes, plazas, gardens and large trees. An urban refuge with openings and closings through containers and casings that appear as unpainted canvases to bring art close to the city and viceversa. The work of Juan Soriano as cultural repertory is at the same time urban and regional.
