A multidisciplinary team lead by French developers NODI and Promoval which includes architects PILA, Coldefy & Associés Architectes Urbanistes, Triptyque architectes – urbanistes IUP and MOZ Paysage has been selected to design and develop the MBK Lot in Bobigny, Paris.
The competition was organized by the city of Bobigny and Est Ensemble in the context of Reinventing Cities call for projects, an innovative international competition led by the C40 - Cities Climate Leadership Group, which aims to transform urban sites in leading examples of sustainable development in 19 cities around the world.
The site is located on a former industrial site along the canal d’ Ourcq in Bobigny Paris. Our project MKNO creates a new environmental, urban and social node for the area. In approximately 50.000m2 of program the masterplan includes, intergenerational housing, student housing, co-living units, hotels, a technology incubator, a culinary incubator for young chefs and a new center for innovative mobility solutions. The proposal creates a porous urban block, revitalizing the banks of the canal with public spaces as well as a park framed by the new building volumes.
The MKNO project meets the environmental ambitions of Reinventing Cities by reducing carbon emissions by 22% over the entire life cycle of the project .The construction of the project is based both on an extensive use of biobased and repurposed materials (approximately 25.000 m3 of wood and 7.600 m² of repurposed materials) while it will use over 50% of renewable energy and apply a holistic plan for soft transportation solutions. Finally, buildings will be designed with reversible layouts in order to increase their lifespan.
By recreating 5.000 m² of vegetated surfaces including 3.000 m² of land, MKNO will strengthen its resilience to climate with natural storm water management while offering the inhabitants a pleasant environment to live.
