Miya is a fast casual restaurant located in the historic center of Florence, a few steps from the Santa Maria Novella station, specialising in oriental cuisine.
Characterized by a fresh image and energetic colours, it draws the attention of the locals and travelers who frequent the street that connects the station to the Central Market of San Lorenzo.
We have taken some typical elements of oriental restaurants (such as the use of ceramic coating, wood, bamboo, hanging lamps, vertical signs), rereading them in a contemporary key, with a captivating and impacting color palette, far from stereotypes.
The challenge that we were called upon to face was on the times, the restaurant has opened to the public in just over a month since we first met the client.
The tight deadlines and the available budget made us orientate on a few but essential elements: the immersive use of color, the use of few and resistant materials and the use of graphics.
The use of color makes the space enveloping and comfortable, creating a corner for a quick but regenerating stop in the frenzy of Via Nazionale, and which give the feeling of a larger environment than it really is.
Coloured ceramic becomes the characterising element of the restaurant, covering all surfaces, in a color palette that plays on the combination of yellow and pink, with the addition of some material details such as the use of wood and bamboo. The combination of colours creates a relaxed and at the same time very captivating atmosphere for guests.
The counter covered with yellow ceramic becomes the fulcrum of the project that delimits the completely visible kitchen.
We recalled the oriental signage consisting of vertical hanging elements, reinterpreting them and transforming them into bright banners with graphics that reinterpret the main elements of the oriental cuisine offered.
Despite the small size, we have created distinct areas inside the room: the seats around the counter and the counter for a quick stop and finally the tables for a more comfortable and prolonged stop.
