Winner of the MIPIM Awards 2012 : category 'best residential development'The project is a 10-storey building located in the North of Paris within an urban
development zone.
It
arises on a 43m long and 48m deep plot.
The project
consists of three different programs:
- Retail
on the ground floor giving onto the street side
- A
retirement home comprising 104 bedrooms on the following 5 floors
- Residential
housing consisting in 28 flats on the 4 top floors
The
retails space is directly accessible from the street, whereas the housing units
and the retirement home are accessible form the big entrance hall that divides
the two programs.
This
hall continues vertically throughout the whole building that creates a light
well in this rather thick building that allows natural light in the corridors
of both retirement home and residential housing.
We tried
to soften the massive aspect of the building, resulting from the respect of
urban rules.
In the
first place by emphasizing the difference between the two main programs:
- The
retirement home in treated in a massif way like a thick block with only slight
withdrawals resulting occasionally into loggias.
- The
housing levels all surrounded with generous peripheral balconies giving a
lighter perception
The
lower part of the building is covered with enameled white briquettes and the top
floors are cladded with wooden like panels with concrete external balconies.
The
project follows the demands for very low energy consuming buildings required by
the city of Paris.
